Bible as Literature
Presentations
Graduate students. In addition to the longer
paper, graduate students will need to give a presentation and
lead a discussion. I'd like you to choose one of the
presentation topics on the syllabus & provide a basic
introduction to the class. Check in the packet and notes for
some basic information on most of the topics; let me know if you
have any questions. For your presentation, you can use MS
PowerPoint, Emaze, Haiku
Deck (has an iPad app version), Prezi, or Sliderocket, Slides,
etc. It's important to select one you are comfortable
with. They all have learning curves. I tried to learn
Prezi last year without much luck, so I went back to PowerPoint.
I like the way Prezi presentations look but couldn't get it to
do what I wanted.
Guidelines
- Use a nice design template. You can create one yourself or use one provided by the program.
- Start with a title page.
- Don't put too much text on a single slide. You want it to be legible from a distance.
- Use standard techniques of good design. Lists, illustrations, etc.
- Tell who pioneered the particular critical method you've
chosen.
- Go over the basic techniques of the method.
- Show an example of the techniques at work.
- Give a short list of the major works on the topic.
- Some of the choices, like the development of the canon, aren't suitable to this technique. Just give an overview of the history.
- Don't get bogged down with this assignment. You're just giving a basic intro to the topic, and pointing the way for your readers to learn more.
- You don't need to narrate the presentation, but you can if your like. Since we don't meet in person, a narration would need to be imbedded in the presenation. Again, don't get bogged down.
- Let me know if you have any questions or hit any snags.
