thanksgiving in the land of
perpetual feasting,
abundance decking galleries
in the form of filligree,
as precarious wandering vines
humming to the invisible
combined harmonies of multiple
brass bands, hollering
autumnal haunts under the
glowering misstress moon,
who sheds her light and her
forgivings into the cascading
ripples of the mississippi —
forgiving the land, forgiving
the ghosts, forgiving the gifts
taken from the grave this land
once was, for all of it is
sacred, from the turning of
fattened grapes into a velvet
wine, to the roasted and
browning edge of tender turkey,
falling apart into truth
on your tongue.
There is so much to give thanks for.
