Doctoral Program in Marketing

Assistantship

In general, students admitted to the doctoral program in the College of Business at Louisiana Tech University are offered the opportunity to receive a Graduate Assistantship.*  Graduate Assistants receive $1,250 per month ($15,000 per year).  In addition, Graduate Assistants receive a waiver of the out-of-state portion of tuition and fees.  In return, Graduate Assistants are expected to teach a class or work with faculty 20 hours per week during each quarter.

The marketing department strives to make the transition to the doctoral program as smooth as possible for new students.  One way we do this is by tying not to put doctoral students in the classroom to teach during their first year in the doctoral program.  While we can't guarantee this, every effort is made to achieve this.  The first year is one of adjustment and assimilation.  We want you to get to know the faculty, begin working on research, and perform well in your classes.  You don't need the additional pressure of teaching a class.  Beginning with the second year in the doctoral program, students may teach undergraduate classes.  Through these assistantships doctoral students are able to interact with faculty to begin pursuing research projects and begin their teaching activities.

* Assistantship awards are competitive and dependent upon funding, student performance, and similar considerations.
