The following assignments and dates are subject to change if conditions during the quarter require that such be done.

WEEK 1 (SEPT. 4-7)

First:  Please note that all email correspondence will be sent to your LA Tech email address. It is necessary that you check your LA Tech Email, Moodle Announcements, and the MathXL Announcements at least once a day and that you keep in contact with the teacher. Since there are no regular class meetings or lectures, it is necessary that each student complete the assignments and bring up any questions or problems by using MathXL, by personal visits, by telephone, by fax, or by email. Any issues with accessing technology, which are related to a disability, should be reported to the instructor as soon as possible.

Note: There are no on-campus attendance requirements beyond having to take the three exams and the optional final exam on the Louisiana Tech campus, Ruston, LA or at another university with arrangements for secure exam monitoring made by Dr. Patterson. If it is necessary for you to take the exam(s) at another university, arrangements must be made with Dr. Patterson and with the remote university by SEPT. 12, 2014.

ASSIGNMENT:

  2. Click Here to Register with MathXL and complete the Orientation Exercises by Monday, Sept. 8.
  3. Click Here To Go To and Print Instructions for Accessing and Using Moodle. 
  4. Begin to study Section P.3 in the text and complete the Section P.3 Homework Exercises.

WEEK 2 (SEPT. 8-14)

ASSIGNMENT:

 

1.      Continue to Study Section P.3 in the text and complete the Section P.3 Homework Exercises.

2.      Study Section P.4 in the text and complete the Section P.4 Homework Exercises.

3.      Study Section P.6 in the text and complete the Section P.6 Homework Exercises.

4.      Complete the Quiz on Sections P.3, P.4, and P.6.

5.      REMINDER: The Homework Exercises must be completed before taking the Weekly Quizzes. The Homework Exercises will be included in determining your final grade in the course. Any questions about these problems can be answered by using MyMathLab, by faxing the work to me, by telephone, or by office visit.

6.      All Homework Exercises and Quizzes for Sections P.3, P.4, and P.6 are due no later than Monday, Sept. 15.

 

WEEK 3 (SEPT. 15-21)

ASSIGNMENT:

1.      Study Section P.7 in the text and complete the Section P.7 Homework Exercises.

2.      Study Section 1.1 in the text and complete the Section 1.1 Homework Exercises.

3.      Study Section 1.2 in the text and complete the Section 1.2 Homework Exercises.

4.      Complete the Quiz on Sections P.7, 1.1, and 1.2.

5.      All Homework Exercises and Quizzes for Sections P.7, 1.1, and 1.2 are due no later than Monday, Sept. 22.

 

 

WEEK 4 (SEPT. 22-28)

ASSIGNMENT:

1.      Study Section 1.3 in the text and complete the Section 1.3 Homework Exercises.

2.      Study Section 1.4 in the text and complete the Section 1.4 Homework Exercises.

3.      Complete the Quiz on Sections 1.3 and 1.4.

4.      All Homework Exercises and Quizzes for Sections 1.3 and 1.4 are due no later than Monday, Sept. 29.

5.      REVIEW SECTIONS P.3-P.4, P.6-P.7, 1.1-1.4, ALL HOMEWORK EXERCISES FOR THOSE SECTIONS, AND ALL QUIZZES FOR THOSE SECTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR EXAM I.

6.      EXAM I SHOULD BE SCHEDULED AFTER COMPLETION OF ALL WORK FOR SECTIONS P.3-P.4, P.6-P.7, 1.1-1.4. THE EXAM MUST BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, OCT. 3. Exam I must be taken at a pre-arranged time on the Ruston campus of Louisiana Tech University or at another university with prior arrangements made by Dr. Patterson for secure exam monitoring. Contact Dr. Patterson to set up the time and date for the exam. If it is necessary for you to take the exam at another university, arrangements must be made at least two weeks in advance.

WEEK 5 (SEPT. 29-OCT. 5)

ASSIGNMENT:

1.      Study Section 1.5 in the text and complete the Section 1.5 Homework Exercises.

2.      Study Section 1.7 in the text and complete the Section 1.7 Homework Exercises.

3.      All Homework Exercises, and Quizzes for Sections 1.5 and 1.7 are due no later than Monday, Oct. 6.

4.      REMINDER: Exam I must be completed no later than Friday, Oct. 3. See note above from last week.

WEEK 6 (OCT. 6-12)

ASSIGNMENT:

1.      Study Section 2.1 in the text and complete the Section 2.1 Homework Exercises.

2.      Study Section 2.2 in the text and complete the Section 2.2 Homework Exercises.

3.      Study Section 2.3 in the text and complete the Section 2.3 Homework Exercises.

4.      Study Section 2.4 in the text and complete the Section 2.4 Homework Exercises.

5.      All Homework Exercises and Quizzes for Sections 2.1-2.4 are due no later than Monday, Oct. 13.

WEEK 7 (OCT. 13-19)

ASSIGNMENT:

1.      Study Section 2.5 in the text and complete the Section 2.5 Homework Exercises.

2.      Study Section 3.1 in the text and complete the Section 3.1 Homework Exercises.

3.      Complete the Quiz on Sections 2.5 and 3.1.

4.      All Homework Exercises and Quizzes for Sections 2.5 and 3.1 are due no later than Monday, Oct. 20.

5.      REVIEW SECTIONS 1.5, 1.7, 2.1-2.5, 3.1, ALL HOMEWORK EXERCISES FOR THOSE SECTIONS, AND ALL QUIZZES FOR THOSE SECTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR EXAM II.

6.      EXAM II SHOULD BE SCHEDULED AFTER COMPLETION OF ALL WORK FOR SECTIONS 1.5, 1.7, 2.1-2.5, and 3.1. THE EXAM MUST BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, OCT. 24. 5.      REMINDER: Exam II must be completed no later than Friday, Oct. 24. See note above from last week.

 

WEEK 9 (OCT. 27-NOV. 2)

ASSIGNMENT:

1.      Study Section 4.2 in the text and complete the Section 4.2 Homework Exercises.

2.      Study Section 4.3 in the text and complete the Section 4.3 Homework Exercises.

3.      Study Section 4.4 in the text and complete the Section 4.4 Homework Exercises.

4.      Complete the Quiz on Sections 4.2-4.4.

WEEK 10 (NOV. 3-9)

ASSIGNMENT:

1.      Study Section 5.1 in the text and complete the Section 5.1 Homework Exercises.

2.      Study Section 5.2 in the text and complete the Section 5.2 Homework Exercises.

3.      Complete the Quiz on Sections 5.1-5.2.

4.      All Homework Exercises and Quizzes for Sections 5.1-5.2 are due no later than Monday, Nov. 10.

5.      REVIEW SECTIONS 1.6, 4.1-4.4, 5.1-5.2, ALL HOMEWORK EXERCISES FOR THOSE SECTIONS, AND ALL QUIZZES FOR THOSE SECTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR EXAM III.

6.      EXAM III SHOULD BE SCHEDULED AFTER COMPLETION OF ALL WORK FOR SECTIONS 1.6, 4.1-4.4, and 5.1-5.2. THE EXAM MUST BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, NOV. 13. THE FINAL EXAMINATION SHOULD ALSO BE SCHEDULED AND COMPLETED NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, NOV. 13.

 

WEEK 11 (NOV. 10-13)

ASSIGNMENT:

REVIEW FOR AND TAKE EXAM III AND FINAL EXAM AS SCHEDULED

REVIEW SECTIONS 1.6, 4.1-4.4, 5.1-5.2, ALL HOMEWORK EXERCISES FOR THOSE SECTIONS, AND ALL QUIZZES FOR THOSE SECTIONS IN PREPARATION FOR EXAM III.

 

REVIEW ALL SECTIONS, ALL HOMEWORK EXERCISES, AND ALL QUIZZES IN PREPARATION FOR THE FINAL EXAM AS IT WILL BE A COMPREHENSIVE FINAL EXAM.

 

EXAM III AND FINAL EXAMINATION TO BE TAKEN NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, NOV. 13 AS SCHEDULED.* The final examination must be taken at a pre-arranged time on the Ruston campus of Louisiana Tech University or at another university with prior arrangements made by Dr. Patterson for secure exam monitoring.
