Louisiana Tech operates on a quarter calendar. All first-year engineering students take ENGR 120, 121 and 122 along with co-requisite math and science courses. These two semester hour, project-based, ENGR courses meet twice per week for 110 minutes throughout the year. An increasing level of independence is expected as students fabricate and test projects that are increasingly complex and open-ended. ENGR 122 culminates at the Freshman Design Expo where students showcase the smart products that they have conceived, designed, fabricated and tested. The current verision of the Living with the Lab curriculum uses an Arduino microcontroller along with the Parallax Boe-Bot parts kit.
An older version of the Living with the Lab curriculum used the BASIC Stamp II microcontroller instead of the Arduino. Course materials associated with the former curriculum are provided below.
Continuity between the freshman year and upper level courses is provided through projects implemented in the three sophomore-level ENGR courses. |
