Course:                  BIEN 501

Title:                       Physiological Modeling

Instructor:               Steven A. Jones

                              239 Bogard Hall, Phone: 257-2288

Text:                       Bird, Stewart and Lightfoot, Transport Phenomena and selected journal articles

Lecture Time:          2-4 am, MWF

                              PAVB 224

Attendance:             Attendance of Lectures is mandatory.  Students must have reasonable cause to miss a lecture.

Grades:                  A/B/C/D/F corresponds to 100/90/80/70/60.  A total score of 90 and above will guarantee an A.

Grade Weighting:    20% Homework, 50% exams, 20% final project, 10% attendance.  There will be 1 midterm exam and 1 final exam.

Homework:

No late homework will be accepted.  Homework is to be done individually.  Homework that indicates copying will be given a score of 0.  Homework will be graded from 0 to 3, where 3 indicates high quality (all answers close to being correct, or at least the methods used are correct), 2 indicates a reasonable effort (with possibly incorrect techniques on one or more problems), 1 indicates minimal effort (e.g. did not attempt one or more problems, or gave trivial answers), and 0 indicates no effort at all (student wrote name on the paper and wrote the question down, but did not attempt a solution).

You must state the rationale for any equations or manipulations you do.  For example, if you are writing down the equation of continuity, state that this is what you are doing.  If you are dividing the equation by r, state this.  Neatness and legibility are also factors in the grading of the homework since they make the grader’s job much easier.  Where appropriate, put a box around your final answer.

Please mark your homework with your name, the course number, the due date, and the number of the homework set.  For example:
