Welcome to Aquatic Bioassays: an On-Line Workshop

This workshop is designed for environmental management personnel, and for contractors and consultants in the area of waste management (particularly those concerned with mangement of industrial or municipal effluents). This online workshop can be taken for Continuing Education Units through the Louisiana Tech Division of Continuing Education.  Students enrolled in the Environmental Science Program at Louisiana Tech University may also receive university credit for completing this workshop. Topics covered in the workshop include:

Governmental regulations concerning aquatic pollution
NPDES Permitting Program and WET tests
Standardized EPA-mandated biomonitoring tests
Test organisms commonly used in aquatic bioassays
Acute toxicity tests: description and methodolgy
Chronic toxicity tests: description and methodology
Quality Assurance in aquatic bioassays
Choosing a qualified laboratory for bioassays
Toxicity Reduction Evaluation (TRE)
Toxicity Identification Evaluation (TIE)
