Temperature Background
There are two types of temperature scales: the regular temperature scale and
the absolute temperature scale. The regular temperature scale consists of
Fahrenheit and Celsius while the absolute temperature scale is composed of
Kelvin. The Fahrenheit scale sets zero as the temperature at which water
freezes at 32oF and the temperature at which water boils at 212
oF. The Celsius scale sets the temperature at which water freezes and
boils at 0 oC and 100 oC, respectively. The absolute
scale of Kelvin is called the absolute scale because the zero on this scale is
at absolute zero, or the temperature at which molecules cease to move.
