Final
Writing Assignment
- You have one final assignment. Over
the course of the quarter, I have asked you to familiarize
yourselves with design principles and information
graphics, to recognize those principles and graphics as
they appear in various settings, to analyze their
effectiveness, and to apply these principles to existing
documents. Now you need to create a product of your own
using these methods.
Here is what I would like you to do: - Identify a work of
information design that is ineffective and needs
redesigning, OR identify a specific need for a document
or product of information design where currently none
exists. Explain.
Refer me to the current design, when possible. Look to
your workplaces, your institutions, or your daily
routines, habits, hobbies, and interests to identify one
of these areas of need. Length: 2 pages.
- Redesign the current information or create the needed information using the principles and graphics in your textbooks. Length: 2 pages.
- Justify your design choices. Length: 2 pages.
- These lengths are
approximations only, and will depend on your choices, but
the complete assignment should be a minimum of five pages.
You are certainly welcome to submit more than five full
pages of work, but no more than seven. As you have seen,
good information design is generally concise, intuitive,
and accessible to a number of audiences. Follow the same format guidelines as last
time. Use a new paper size, font, color scheme,
etc., from your last assignment. Don't forget to
include a note about what font you chose and why.
- Also, I plan to save your
work to use as teaching tools for this course. You will
remain anonymous. If you do not want me to use your work,
I will need you to state this when you submit your final
project, please.
- Best to all of you in your studies and workplaces, and if you have any questions about this final project, please contact me.
