Proposal Intro. — Veal Calf Ad
The next essay is a group project. You can just use the same
groups you've been working on the anthology with. For this
project, you are writing a proposal essay. That means you're
trying to get somebody to do something.
- Look around for something that needs to be changed. I prefer limited topics here as elsewhere. The big things that students flock to for argumentative essays tend to be guns, abortion, or some other similar topic that hasn't changed much over decades. Focus on a local topic that a local actor can affect.
- Pick an audience that can do something about the problem.
- Tailor your argument to that audience. What would he/she find persuasive?
- Look up evidence to support your argument. Use at least 2 sources. Use MLA citation style and MLA bibliography style. Use good judgment in picking your sources. Make sure they are reliable.
- Use the modified
block business letter style for your format. But
make it double spaced so I can have room to put my feedback.
- I'll use these criteria to grade your essay.
- It should have around 850 words.
- Include
at least 3 paragraphs.
- 1 for the intro.
- 2 for the body.
- Use 2
sources. They should be reputable.
- Use 2 quotes per body paragraph (at least).
- 1" margin. Double spaced. Use MLA style for quotations and your bibliography.
