With visitors such as University of Louisiana System President Sally Clausen, Rep.
Hollis Downs, R-Ruston; Sen. Bob Kostelka, R-Monroe; and numerous members from the
IfM's 15-year crystal anniversary on Nov.29, 2006 with an open house, guided tours
of the IfM laboratories and series of demonstrations.
Mainardi have served during this event guiding tours of students and teachers through
the IfM facilities for Grambling High School (33 students + 2 teachers), Grambling
Middle School (41 students + 2 teachers),and Simsboro High School(40 students + 2
teachers).
Each tour started with an interactive 15-min PowerPoint presentation, where the nano/micro-scale
research conducted at the IfM was explained to the audience using analogies students
could understand. Then, the students were walked through the IfM experimental labs
while experiencing hands-on demonstrations of research activities. Finally the tour
ended at the IfM atrium where in-vivo demonstrations were offered to them.
