Weekly Syllabus

 

Note: Weeks run Monday-Sunday.

The following assignments and dates are subject to change if conditions during the quarter require that such be done.  

WEEK 1 (SEPT. 10-12)

First:  Be sure that you have given your current email address to Dr. Hanna. 

ASSIGNMENT:

 

  1. Click Here To Go To and Print Information about ALEKS and Initial Steps For Registering on ALEKS.
  2. Click Here to Register with ALEKS and complete the initial assessment by Wednesday, Sept. 15. Take the assessment just as you would a final exam so that the only topics remaining to work on in the ALEKS Pie (the learning mode)  will be topics you do not know.

  5.  Click Here To Go To and Print Instructions for Accessing and Using Blackboard. 
  6. Study Section 6-1 in the Textbook. Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice on Blackboard for Section 6.1  
  7. Work the assigned problems in the Textbook for Section 6.1. REMINDER: Problems assigned from the textbook must be completed before taking the Weekly Quizzes. These problems will not be turned in because they can be checked using the answers in the back of the textbook. Any questions about these problems can be answered by using the ALEKS Message Center, by faxing the work to me, by telephone, or by office visit.
  8. Go to ALEKS and work on topics in the ALEKS Pie. NOTE: Just as the assignments from the textbook, your work in the ALEKS Pie is necessary in order to assure that you have learned the required material and will be able to do well on the quizzes.
  9. Go to Practice Problems, Practice Quizzes, and Other Supplements as needed.

WEEK 2 (SEPT. 13-19)

ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Study Section 6-2 in the Textbook, omitting Example 6; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.
  2. Study Section 6-3 in the Textbook, omitting Example 4: Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.
  3. Go to ALEKS and work on topics in the ALEKS Pie to reach the ALEKS percentage goal for this week = 12%. Your progress and % completion is located under "Report" in ALEKS.
  4. Go to Practice Problems, Practice Quizzes, and Other Supplements as needed.
  5. Go To and Take Quiz 1 (Sections 6.1-6.3) in ALEKS no later than Monday, Sept 20
  6. Go To and Take Quiz 1A (Sections 6.1-6.3) on Blackboard no later than Monday, Sept. 20   

WEEK 3 (SEPT. 20-26)

ASSIGNMENT:

WEEK 4 (SEPT. 27-oCT. 3)

ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Study Section 6-6 in the Textbook (Example 2 is optional since you will be required to graph without the aid of the graphing calculator); Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.
  2. Study Section 6-7 in the Textbook, omitting Example 8; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.
  3. Go to ALEKS and work on topics in the ALEKS Pie to reach the ALEKS percentage goal for this week = 41%
  4. Go to Practice Problems, Practice Quizzes, and Other Supplements as needed.
  5. Go To and Take Quiz 3A (Sections 6.6-6.7) in Blackboard no later than Monday, Oct. 4
  6. Go To and Take Quiz 3 (Sections 6.6-6.7) in ALEKS no later than Monday, Oct. 4.

WEEK 5 (OCT. 4-10)

ASSIGNMENT:

ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Reminder: Go To and Take Quiz 4A (Section 6.8) in the ALEKS Message Center no later than Monday, Oct. 11.
  2. Reminder: Go To and Take Quiz 4 (Sections 6.7-6.8) in ALEKS  no later than Monday, Oct. 11.
  3. Study Section 6-9 in the Textbook; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.
  4. Review Sections 6-1 through 6-8 for the Midquarter exam.
  5. Go to ALEKS and continue to work on topics in the ALEKS Pie to reach the ALEKS percentage goal  = 57%
  6. Go to Practice Problems, Practice Quizzes, and Other Supplements as needed.
  7. MIDQUARTER EXAMINATION TO BE SCHEDULED AFTER COMPLETION OF ALL WORK FOR SECTIONS 6.1-6.9, BUT NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, OCT. 15. The midquarter examination must be taken at a pre-arranged time on the Ruston campus of Louisiana Tech University or at another university with prior arrangements made by Dr. Hanna for secure exam monitoring. Contact Dr. Hanna to set up the time and date for the exam. If it is necessary for you to take the exam at another university, arrangements must be made at least two weeks in advance.

WEEK 7 (OCT. 18-24)

ASSIGNMENT:

  1. MIDQUARTER EXAMINATION ON TUESDAY, APRIL 20 OR WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21 AS SCHEDULED. . The midquarter examination must be taken at a pre-arranged time on the Ruston campus of Louisiana Tech University or at another university with prior arrangements made by Dr. Hanna for secure exam monitoring. Contact Dr. Hanna to set up the time and date for the exam. If it is necessary for you to take the exam at another university, arrangements must be made at least two weeks in advance.
  2. Study Section 7-1 in the Textbook, omitting Example 7; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.
  3. Study Section 7-2 in the Textbook, omitting Example 2; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.
  4. Go to ALEKS and work on topics in the ALEKS Pie to reach the ALEKS percentage goal for this week = 73%
  5. Go to Practice Problems, Practice Quizzes, and Other Supplements as needed.
  6. Go To and Take Quiz 5 (Sections 6.9, 7.1, 7.2) in ALEKS  no later than Monday, April 26.
  7. Go To and Take Quiz 5A (Sections 6.9, 7.1, 7.2) in Blackboard no later than Monday, April 26.

WEEK 8 (OCT. 25-31)

ASSIGNMENT:

  1. Study Section 7-3 in the Textbook; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.
  2. Read Section 7-4 in the Textbook: Just read and note that there are identities of these types
  3. Study Section 7-5 in the Textbook, omitting Examples 6-9; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.
  4. Go to ALEKS and work on topics in the ALEKS Pie to reach the ALEKS percentage goal for this week = 88%
  5. Go to Practice Problems, Practice Quizzes, and Other Supplements as needed.
  6. Go To and Take Quiz 6 (Sections 7.3 & 7.5) in  ALEKS  no later than Monday, May 3.
  7. Go To and Take Quiz 6B (Sections 7.3 & 7.5) in Blackboard no later than Monday, May 3.

WEEK 9 (NOV. 1-7)

ASSIGNMENT:

1.      Study Section 8-1 in the Textbook; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.

2.      Study Section 8-2 in the Textbook; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.

3.      Study Section 8-3 in the Textbook, omitting Example 3; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.

4.      Study Section 8-4 in the Textbook, omitting Example 7; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.

5.      Go to ALEKS and work on topics in the ALEKS Pie to reach the ALEKS percentage goal for this week = 94%

6.      Go to Practice Problems, Practice Quizzes, and Other Supplements as needed.

7.      Go To and Take Quiz 7 (Sections 8-1 & 8-2) in  ALEKS  no later than Monday, Nov. 8.  

8.      Go To and Take Quiz 7A (Sections 8-1 through 8-4) in Blackboard no later than Monday, Nov. 8. 

WEEK 10 (NOV. 8-14)

ASSIGNMENT:

1.      Study Section 8-6 in the Textbook; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.

2.      Study Section 8-7 in the Textbook; Go to and Work through the Section Specific Audio Visual Tutorial/Practice; Work the assigned problems in the textbook.

3.      Go to ALEKS and work on topics in the ALEKS Pie to reach the ALEKS percentage goal for this week = 100%

4.      Go to Practice Problems, Practice Quizzes, and Other Supplements as needed.

5.      Go To and Take Quiz 8 (Sections 8-6 & 8-7) in  ALEKS  no later thanMonday, Nov. 15.

6.      Go To and Take Quiz 8A (Sections 8-6 & 8-7) in the ALEKS Message Center no later than Monday, Nov. 15.

7.      FINAL EXAMINATION TO BE SCHEDULED NO LATER THAN THURSDAY NOVEMBER 18

 

WEEK 11 (NOV. 15-18)

ASSIGNMENT:

REVIEW FOR AND TAKE FINAL EXAM AS SCHEDULED

  1. REVIEW ALL SECTIONS, YOUR MIDQUARTER EXAM, ALL STUDY TIPS, AND ALL QUIZZES IN PREPARATION FOR FINAL EXAM.
  2. Go to ALEKS and work on topics in the ALEKS Pie to reach the ALEKS total goal  = 100%
  3. (Go to Additional Instructional and Tutoring Services, Practice Problems, Chapter Tests, and Self Tests in Blackboard as needed for review for FINAL exam.)
  4. FINAL EXAMINATION TO BE TAKEN NO LATER THAN THURSDAY NOVEMBER 18 AS SCHEDULED.* The final examination must be taken at a pre-arranged time on the Ruston campus of Louisiana Tech University or at another university with prior arrangements made by Dr. Hanna for secure exam monitoring. *Graduating seniors must take the final exam in time to submit their final course grades by 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17.
