     This course, Introduction to Environmental Science, is an important introductory course in the Environmental Science program at Louisiana Tech University.   The subject matter covered in the course deals with the interface between humans and earth's resources.  The course is designed to provide students with a solid framework of knowledge of basic principles which are important in Environmental Science, and an understanding of causes, effects, and controls of environmental problems facing the world today. This course is subdivided into four main sections...

  1. Natural ecosystems: how they function, change and evolve
  2. Human population growth: effects on natural resources
  3. Pollution:  its many forms, causes, and effects on natural resources
  4. Conservation and the wise utilization of natural resources

     The course, which is for three semester hours credit, is listed in the Louisiana Tech catalog as Environmental Science 200.  The text book to be used in conjunction with the course is Environmental Science, 6th Edition, by B. J. Nebel and R. T. Wright.
