The federal work-study program (FWSP) provides jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay education expenses.  The program encourages community service work and work related to your course of study.

To be considered for FWSP, students must have checked "yes" to interested in student employment on the FAFSA; have financial need; and a cumulative college GPA of 2.0 if an undergraduate, a cum. College GPA of 3.0 if a graduate.  You will be allowed to earn up to a set amount during an award period. The maximum award is $750 per quarter. Students cannot work more than 20 hours per week and must be enrolled full time to be able to continue work. You will be paid hourly and will receive at least the current Federal minimum wage. You will receive a paycheck at least once monthly. Please remember, any funds awarded to you under this program will not be credited to your student account; therefore, these funds will not be available to help pay your initial registration costs. You must work and earn these funds in order to receive any benefit under this program.

Work-study jobs are both on campus as well as off campus. And when assigning work hours, your employer or financial aid administrator will consider your class schedule and your academic progress. Your total Federal Work-Study award depends on when you apply, your level of need, and the funding level of your school.
