Scholarships

Federal Pell Grant
Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. By completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the U.S. Department of Education uses a formula established by Congress to calculate you and your families "expected family contribution" (EFC) for the upcoming year. The EFC figure determines whether or not you qualify for a Pell Grant. Awards for full-time attendance during the 1999-2000 academic year range from $400 to $3,125. Pell Grant awards are reduced proportionately if you are enrolled less than full-time.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
SEOG grants are awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. The federal government requires that students who have a zero EFC receive first consideration for this grant. Funds are limited; therefore, students who complete their financial aid files by the published priority deadline will be given first consideration. SEOG is awarded for fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters, and the maximum award is $400 per quarter.

Scholarships/Other Assistance
The Admissions Office awards scholarships to incoming students; various Departments and Colleges also award scholarships to both incoming and continuing students. Some students may also receive scholarships/other assistance from outside sources. Any scholarship awards that appear on your financial aid award letter are estimates only based on information the student self-reports or on prior year information. A scholarship/other assistance that appears on a financial aid award letter is not an official offer. If you receive any type(s) of additional assistance not listed on your financial aid award letter, you must notify the Financial Aid Office immediately. An adjustment to your original award may be made if additional assistance is received at any time during the school year. If you will not be receiving the scholarship/other assistance listed, please indicate such at the bottom of your award letter and we will correct our records.

Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS)
Estimated TOPS awards have been made by our office for incoming freshman based only on ACT score and Louisiana residency, neither the GPA nor core curriculum requirements were reviewed. An Estimated TOPS award listed on your financial aid award letter is not an official offer. The official offer will come from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance at a later date if you are eligible. Since the majority of students should qualify, we estimated the award to prevent making reductions to other awards at a later date. If you know you are not eligible to receive TOPS, please indicate such at the bottom of your award letter and we will correct our records and your award package.
