Many people do not get accepted to medical school straight out of college on the first try. Others simply put off going to medical school for a while. Another non-traditional route is going to medical school in a foreign country. Most of these students choose schools in Canada, the U.K. or the Caribbean, however, it is important to make sure that these schools are accredited in the United States if you plan to practice medicine in America.

Some applicants attend graduate school before applying to medical school. Others realize only later in life that they would like to become medical doctors. Regardless, medical school admissions committees favor selecting diverse classes with interesting students.
