• Alta Vista

Indexes the text of Internet materials. If you get too many entries, go to the Advanced Search option.


• MetaCrawler

Uses several other search services, including AltaVista, to compile a list of sources containing the search terms.


• Excite

Very good at finding large numbers of references; a good complement to AltaVista.


• HotBot

Also does a thorough job of covering sites.
